●宋朝元嘉初年，僧人昙无竭，与徒弟二十多人，前往佛国求经，备经艰险。到达天竺后，路上遭遇一群野象，他们便竭诚念诵观音圣号。有一头狮子从林中出来，野象奔逃而去。又有怪牛，群吼而到，行将加害时，僧众又竭力念观音圣号，忽然天上有大鹫鸟飞来，牛群惊散，僧众得以免难。《高僧传初集》
●晋时，尼师明感，起初被贼寇抓获，誓不受辱，备受各种苦楚。后来，遇到一位比丘，教给她《观音经》，她便习诵，昼夜不休。后来得到机会逃走，因不识路，进入一座穷山。有一头老虎前来为她带路，十多天后，到达青州。将进村庄时，老虎便不见了。《比丘尼传》
●唐时，僧人元康，常念观音，求菩萨加持。他得鹿一头，鹿角分八叉，形状很奇异。元康抚摸它，非常驯伏，于是豢养它。骑鹿远行，鹿也没有疲态。《高僧传三集》
●唐时，华林寺的善觉法师，宰相裴休访问他，问：“有侍者吗？”法师回答：“有两个。”于是叫“大空、小空”。两头老虎便从庵后出来。裴休很惊恐。法师对老虎说：“有客，且回避。”两头老虎，便咆哮着退去。裴休问：“您修什么法，感得如此？”法师提起念珠说：“只念观世音。”《大藏直指》称他为“伏虎禅师”。 《高僧传三集》
●江苏吴兴白雀寺，相传是唐代宰相李绅建造。现在重建道场，香火旺于他处。观音殿前，往常有老虎来朝拜，并无暴行。但人们多惊恐，便赶他们走。此后，有獐子来作礼拜佛，像是老虎派遣来的。《狯园》
●江西广丰县东门外，有座莲花庵，每年二月观音大士圣诞日，春水上涨，必有大鲤率小鱼，逆流到庵前停留。故老相传，是来朝拜观音大士。大鲤朝拜完，杳然不见。村民若有人抓捕小鱼，立时生病。《海南一勺》
●二月十九日是观音大士诞辰，远近人先期斋戒进山朝拜的，何止亿万众。佛殿容纳不下，都在露天坐到早晨，叫做“宿山”。明朝嘉靖甲寅年的观音圣诞期，星月明朗，忽见白鹦鹉从佛殿中飞出，旋绕空中，万人瞩目。赞叹念佛之声，振撼林木，如此反复数次。《天竺志》
●清朝顺治年间，海盗阮俊，与倭人（日本海盗）谋取普陀藏经（佛经）。僧人照中，率领数百人，到舟山向海盗哀求不已。阮俊怒道：“你们想得经，当向龙宫水府去求。”用船装载藏经，行驶到大洋，忽然有大鱼来挡住船，船数日不得动弹。阮俊悔过，送回佛经，不到半天，就到了道头，设供养之后离去。《普陀志》
●唐敬宗，崇尚佛教，全国僧徒日益众多。文宗继位后，有人谗言说佛教消耗国家财富，文宗准备颁诏停止僧人说经。又有人请求斥责不修教的。诏书即将颁行时，恰逢宫中的“尚食吏”（官名）用鼎煮鸡蛋，忽然听到鼎中好像有人说话，一听，竟然是很多人群呼“观世音菩萨”的声音。于是奏告文宗。文宗亲自验证后，喟然叹息说：“只有佛教才能如此啊！”文宗颁诏全国各地精舍寺庙，设立观音菩萨像。《宣室志》
●岭南（今广东一带）献给皇宫的白鹦鹉，能懂人话。唐明皇及杨贵妃，都叫它“雪衣女”，左右的人叫它“雪衣娘”，杨贵妃还教它念诵《心经》。《明皇杂录》
